8,400 cubic meters of concrete, 840 tonnes of steel, 300 kilometres of electrical cables: the revitalisation of the Kurpfalz Center was a large project.
For 16 months, the retail park in Mannheim-Vogelstang, which was built in 1972, was renovated and brought up to date - not only technically, but also in terms of its architecture. The renovation, for which METRO PROPERTIES was responsible, was carried out with the center still operating. At peak times, 185 craftsmen were working at the center.
The area of the previous Real market was reduced to a contemporary format and redesigned with new product lines and a modern fresh produce section. The additional space that was acquired was used for the creation of a large shop zone with an attractive mix of various sectors and many new shops. The Kurpfalz Center is also attractive from the outside: the facade has been partly renewed and large shop windows invite passers-by to come in and shop. Seating and catering establishments invite the public to stay awhile and relax. A new lighting concept provides a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. In spite of all the comfort, great attention has been paid to energy efficiency: in this way, it will be possible to save one third of the power consumption through the use of highly efficient systems engineering.
An attractive tenant mix makes the center, which is managed by MEC METRO-ECE center management, into a center of attraction for the region.
